Wellcome Lunar new Year
Post: Production and Location Management
Lunar New Year is the most important holiday in Hong Kong culture where families celebrate the beginning of a new year with customs and events to bring prosperity and luck to them in the upcoming year. One of these events is the Dragon dance that requires a letter of permission by the police to take place in public spaces. Because Hong Kong is a melding pot of different Chinese heritages, each district is different with different sets of rules and beliefs. This project took us to the nearby island of Cheng Chau, where we learned that due to cultural beliefs, the Dragon Dance is not allowed to occur on the island. Therefore for this project, we needed to take footage in Cheung Chau without the dragon dance and with the dragon dance digitally edited back into the footage.
